How do I add pictures? - student

Okay, the topic of the hour! The easiest way to get photos on your page is to use Microsoft's web browser (the big blue 'e' for MS Exploder). Explorer will let you right click on a photo and use the 'copy' command. Then, go edit your wiki page. Put the cursor where you want your photo to be and paste. Your photo can be resized by clicking on the handles of the photo and dragging them to resize.

Are you linking to a website (URL), a pbwiki page that is already made, or a new pbwiki page (Insert a link to a new page)? The first two examples use the 'earth/chain link' icon in your tool bar. You would first highlight your text, click the icon, select the type of link you want to use, and then type the address into the box. In creating the new page on pbwiki, type your link text, click "Insert a link to new page". After you save the page, you edited, click your new link and it will create the new page for you.

A few people said that they would be creating PowerPoint presentations in addition to their wiki work. If that is you, then create your wiki first, then create your powerpoint and I'll come to Clayton and help you get it onto your page. Mr M

My Panda peeps will be shown how to put a video on once you get good content on your page. Remember, I said that while putting pictures, videos, and powerpoints can be very meaningful things for your report, your report is first and formost your written ideas that show what you have learned from your research. If you have a video you want to use, write down the site address and we'll work together to put it up. (It's actually pretty easy. Just don't go there yet.) Mr M.

How do we get the graph on our wiki?EN, JM

We covered this on Thursday. You can use the website I gave above to create the graph. Since it is a Flash (certain type of grahic) file, we can't copy/paste it onto the page. So, you need save the graph as .png type and save to your computer or server. When you are editing your wiki page, look for the section on the right side of the page "Insert links" and the link "Images and files". Click it, browse to find your graphic where you just saved it, and then click upload. Put your cursor where you want the image to show up and then click on the file you just uploaded. Mr M.

You can't edit the powerpoint on the wiki. You can edit it from the google docs page and then re-publish it onto your wiki.

We inserted a linnk, but how come it went to a place that says,"Page names can't have a slash in them?" guppysKJ YX

Remember when we said that page names can't have 'special characters'? We talked about names only having A-Z, 1-9, and spaces. For now, don't even use capital letters. Mr. M

Looks like you've started your page. Your wiki works mostly like a word processor. You need to type your questions, research, and answers onto the wiki page. Organize your ideas much like you would for a written report. You can add pictures (see directions above on this page) and you know how to add a link to your online sources for information or pictures.

How can we make columns for our page?

You can use the 'insert table' tool in the tool bar to create a form for typing in columns.

1. Click the icon to insert a table.	2. Select how many columns or rows.	3. Leave pixel size at 200. You can change that later.
4. The columns will stretch as you type inside of them.	5. You can click on the handles (little squares on the edge of the table) to adjust the width of the table.	6. Do not hit the 'return' key when you type in the cells. The lines will wrap when the reach the end.
