Pond Snails

We hope you enjoy our wiki page on Pond Snails!

Different kinds of snails can be found in different places. They can be found in gardens, ponds, and in

oceans or seas. We will be focusing on (as you have already probably guessed) the very unique, Pond Snail!

Mating

For snails it takes 2 whole years to become full adults. Snails are both male and

female making them what is called hermaphrodite. Even when snails are

hermaphrodite, they do still need to mate to exchange sperms. After mating the

snails lay about 80 spherical shaped, white or yellowish colored eggs at 1 time.

They can lay up to 6 times in 1 year. The pond snail carries its

fertilized eggs with it until they hatch. http://www.kiddyhouse.com/Snails/

Description

Mostly the pond snail is tan or dark brown which can look blakish from a distance.

Some live up to 15 whole years. They can't hear, so they usually rely on their

sense of touch and smell because their eyesight is also poor.

Where They Live in the Pond

Some have gills and that allows them to live on the bottom of the pond.

If they don't have gills they live near the top of the pond which anbles

them to breath when they need to. http://www.kiddyhouse.com/Snails/

What Eats Them

The flesh of the pond snail is very delicous. French People commemly eat them.

You can but them at certent stores such as a fish monger in the city. You

have to remember to wash it and clean it good. http://www.kiddyhouse.com/Snails/

Habitait

Pond Snails live in ponds mostly, but can also live in lakes and the shore

of oceans sometimes.

Life Span

Pond snails may live 3-6 years but most die before that when they are eaten or due to poor

water quality or something else.

Life Cycle

They start out as eggs gradually getting bigger. Then into tiny snails, sometimes the size

of the tip of your pencil. After that, they get bigger and bigger as the size you know of today!
