A water beetle (also known as diving beetles) are beetles that adapted to living in water. We got this info from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_beetlehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_beetle                There is about 300 species of water beetles they live in streams and ponds especially ponds with muddy bottoms. They are usually black and brown and a little greenish. Underneath their wings they have a pocket that holds air so they can breath underwater for a long amount of time. They eat small insects they find near the surface of the water. We got this from  http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-waterbee.html                         Adult water beetles have two pairs of wings but you con only see one pair when it is not flying. Adult water beetles hibernate in underwater soil for some of the year, and are more active doring spring when they feed on small insects. we found this at         http://www.everythingabout.net/articles/biology/animals/arthropods/insects/beetles/water_beetle/
